40-Foot Superslide Opens in Singapore Airport

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - With security checkpoints, long layovers, lost luggage, and the rising cost of air travel, it's easy to understand why not many people consider the airport an enjoyable place.

Singapore's Changi Airport is trying to change that. Now, for every $22 spent in the airport, travelers can receive tickets for the Slide@T3, the tallest slide in Singapore.

Those brave enough to try the 40-foot-tall, twister slide are treated to speeds of up to 19 feet per second. A second slide, just a tad smaller at "only" one-and-a-half stories, is located at the airport and is free, reported The New York Times .

The airport also boasts a walking trail, cactus garden, and Koi pond, among other amenities, according to the airport's website .

While it might be the largest slide in airport history, it is not the first time an airport has attempted to put the fun back in flying .

At Gatwick Airport in London Heinz recently opened a lounge that features slow-cooked beans, after finding that many road-weary travelers missed home-cooked food while traveling.

These include:

• A self-service ice-cream sundae machine at Boston Logan International Airport.

• An outdoor observation deck (remember those?) is offered at Los Angeles International Airport.
• Travelers love the candy provided by a giant purple machine with flashing lights at Outagamie County Regional Airport in Appleton, Wis.
• During the summer, San Francisco International Airport presented You are Hear concerts. Performances were held every Friday through between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at three different stages in the airport.
