Teen Uses Cell Phone, Craigslist to Get a Porsche

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Through the pure luck of making smart swaps on the online classified site Craigslist, an entrepreneurial teenager became the only kid at his high school to drive his own convertible Porsche.

According to Yahoo! , for the past two years 17-year-old Steven Ortiz has spent hours a day searching Craigslist for valuable finds. The Californian managed to trade a used cell phone his friend gave him for an eventual 2000 Porsche Boxster S convertible.

For the last couple of years in 14 trades, Ortiz has managed to own an iPod touch, various dirt bikes, a MacBook Pro, a golf cart and a 1975 Ford Bronco.

But even though his parents are proud of their business-minded son, the boy said some of his relatives think he's a trickster.

"People just make these trades," he explained to the Whittier Daily News . "I am not lying to anyone."

But the final trade he made was reportedly a trade down: the 1975 Bronco was worth about $15,000 versus the Boxster that was only worth $9,000.

However, the initial thrill of driving the Porsche has worn off for the ambitious teen and he has changed his mind about keeping the sports car.

The high maintenance, operating expenses and gas costs that go along with the roadster have swayed Ortiz into looking for a more affordable car sooner than later, according to the Whittier Daily News .
