Who Is Alex Lambert?

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Alex Lambert broke down after getting the news that he was not advancing to the Top 12.

"American Idol" contestant Alex Lambert isn't shy when asked why he thinks he can be the next winner of the popular TV show. The 19-year-old from North Richland Hills, Texas believes his unique personality and voice set him apart from the other 24 semifinalists in season nine.

"I think I can draw a crowd and I think I can draw America into my music," he said, according to About.com .

Lambert is a high school senior at Richland High School who started singing at age nine, PopTower.com reported. When he's not singing, Lambert said he enjoys playing football, which should come easy considering he has six brothers.

"The thing that I'll probably miss most from home is being able to chill with my brothers, because, I mean, we've always lived in the same house," he said in a video interview posted on his "American Idol" page .

Family ties also run strong in Lambert's budding musical career. The Fort Worth, Texas native said it was his mother who encouraged him to audition for "American Idol."

"My mom has been wanting me to do it for the past two years," he said. "I finally realized that this was my year," About.com reported.

Lambert auditioned for the show in Dallas, and won a slot in the Hollywood competition.

His musical style is described as acoustic-crunk-indie, PopTower.com reported. Lambert has said his most memorable show to date was a small coffee shop in Dallas, according to The Houston Chronicle .

Lambert, who usually plays guitar when he performs, said one of the biggest challenges for him in "Idol" is getting comfortable performing without an instrument. "I get real nervous when I don't have an instrument in front of me," he said.

And, to answer the often-asked question, no, he is not related to Adam Lambert, a contestant on last year's "American Idol."
