Barbara Bush Goes 'Seventies' for Magazine

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Former First Daughter Barbara Bush will be among socialites appearing in V Magazine's Sept. 2 "New York" issue.

Celebrity photographer Terry Richardson shot the 28-year-old Bush and others in seventies-inspired looks. For her photo Bush wore a pair of navy blue bell bottoms and a white button-down shirt in what is being called an Ali McGraw look. See the photo .

Other socialites appearing in the issue are fashion designers Rachel Roy, Shoshanna Gruss and Minnie Mortimer, sister of fashion entrepreneur Tinsley Mortimer, Yahoo! News' The Upshot Blog reported.

"The city in the '70s had Lauren, Bianca, and Marisa, who knew everyone, went everywhere, and looked fabulous doing so," V Magazine said in its introduction to the fashion feature.

"These days Manhattan is still a girls' club but its members aren't just sitting pretty ’ they're producing films, launching fashion lines, and making New York a more beautiful place one face at a time."

Bush told V that her look reminded her of a childhood friend's mother, who she said "literally wears this look everyday."

"Her style has stayed the same since the 70s ’ a silk button down shirt and bellbottom pants ’ although her shoulder pads have gotten bigger throughout the years," she said. "She is quite chick, although I didn't notice how chic she was until I got older."

Bush said she loves staring at images from the '70s and "dreaming about the world that they existed in."

Earlier this year Bush founded Global Health Corps to recruit young professionals to work for health non-profits in the eastern United States and in East Africa. Among the foundation's focuses is supporting HIV-positive mothers in Malawi.

She told V that she started the foundation after working for a South African children's hospital and seeing a need for young professionals to commit themselves to solve health issues.

Yahoo! said Bush had stayed out of the spotlight since her father, President George W. Bush, left office. She appeared on Oprah earlier this year with her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, and sister Jenna Bush Hager.
