(MyFOX NATIONAL) - Could your cell phone inadvertently turn on your gas oven without you even knowing?
A Brooklyn man claims that his phone does just that and actually caused his kitchen to fill with smoke. According to an original report from New York all-news radio station 1010 WINS, Andrei Melnikov first noticed it last Monday when he claims an incoming phone call caused his gas range’s broiler to light.
According to the report, when Melnikov’s "… Sony Erickson PDA is within about two feet of the stove, an incoming call will cause the Maytag Magic Chef stove to beep and the digital display will light up indicating that the broiler is on high. Open it up and you'll see the gas flames streaming out of the broiler's burners …"
The owner notified Maytag which promised to send a repair team to identify the problem.
A check of Maytag recalls on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Web site indicates there are no existing recalls for Maytag gas stoves that describe this particular problem. The Maytag recalls that are related to gas stoves are listed below.
